As you read this page, you probably have a lot of questions on who we are, how are we different and why should you trust us. I hear you and I get it.
We are a small and currently independent company that is passionate about the intersection between technology and psychology. Our goal is to create a healthier social environment online for the rest of us.
To us that means it is a way for us to be online, meet others and communicate without having our time wasted by clunky interfaces, or distracting feeds. Without ads of things we don't need being fed to us, without having our data used against us and our emotions exploited for capital gains.
We are social creatures by nature, so why have this pure and innate need to be with another being used against us? Our generation is the loneliest in the entire history despite having the most "social" tools. Despite having this amazing internet that can connect us with any human anywhere on earth at any notice.
Why have things gotten this bad?
Our belief is that social networks have turned into social medias. The business models of ads have led to us becoming consumers instead of connectors. Instead of helping us socialise and network, it provides us brain rotting media made by our social circles.
We believe that it's time to stop. It's time we create a social network that does not treat their users as products. That helps the users to get to their goal while respecting their time and attention. To make being online simpler, intentional and meaningful.
And to do that, we already have a roadmap of products and features. But we're beginning with this, the profile.
Because the first step in socializing online, is to have a profile that is simple to use, easy to maintain and one that respects your privacy and diversity. A profile that lets you share more than just posts on a timeline or a some rigid resume / portfolio of works. But rather your pictures, videos, recordings, podcasts, thoughts, books and anything. One that's flexible without becoming overwhelming and technical.
It's a social profile but on the open web.
We're in a generation where paying for online services we use is now normalized. Community and social connections are also being seen as valuable. Now is the right time to create a healthier social network that isn't a social media. One that profits from helping people network and socialize better. Not by selling their data and feed them to ads.
With this audacious thesis, the question lies more so on how should we build the company behind it. We know that anyone can possibly copy our product but we also know that they can't copy our values. Because what is driving this dream isn't just a product but a set of principles formed from our unique identities and lived experiences.
So let me introduce The Honest Tech Inc, the company that's behind Modul.
When we chose this name, we came together with a promise that we're committed to transparency. We'll be honest (get it?), we don't have everything figured out. There's only 3 of us behind this company but we share the same principles.
We'll never overpromise you on things we can't build within just the 3 of us.
Our expected shipping date might get delayed as we are still learning to scope ourselves better but we're actively improving on this.
We'll protect your interests and well being at all costs.
We have been tempted to sell your data in promise of riches but the three of us agreed that is not why we built this company. We built this company in order to protect you. In order to serve you. We're not here to add fuel to what is already wrong with this world.
We're not in it for the money.
Yes, we do need runway to survive but let me be clear, the three of us have goals beyond money. What we desire is to live a life freely by our values and dreams. We dream of being the company that a billion people find value in and that would translate to billion dollars in net worth. But we're focused on the billion people not the billion dollars.
We believe less is more.
We believe less capital and a small team leads to a healthier work environment which translates to a healthier product and service for you. Our current team of 3 will eventually expand but I do dream of being one of the first to create a billion dollar company with just 10 team members.
We'll make sure everyone feels heard.
Our current team is diverse in gender identity, sexuality, nationality and ethnicity. Our commitment is that as we expand, we continue to have more team members who are different from us. Because only with diversity, can we make sure everyone's voice is represented. The current social network is already hegemonic due to the homogeneous nature of the founding circle.
We've been burnt before by the products and companies out there. But these same scars are what drives us to create a new world, where less people would share these scars.
